The Catalmo Tower

On the left bank of the Agrò torrent there is the Catalmo quarter, right in the area where the ruins of the old city of Phoenix must be lying.

This quarter hosts its own tower, very tall and square-based. It has been built on a spiky rock a bit far from the torrent, that is why on the door lintel the Arab names Kalac (rock) and Albeus (riverbed) were engraved. According to some studies it seems to be the most ancient tower in the area, and the most strategically relevant, because it is the one nearest to the Poentefur Castle of Savoca.
